Jan de Rijk Logistics takes over Har Vaessen Group
Jan de Rijk Logistics, the Dutch-based logistics service provider, announced the successful completion of the acquisition of the Har Vaessen Group, based in Swalmen, the Netherlands.
Har Vaessen has built up a strong reputation as a pioneer in the field of intermodal transportation with a strong focus on the Central- and Southern European market. The company’s headquarter is located in Swalmen, Province of Limburg, the Netherlands. In addition, the company has offices in Slovakia and Bulgaria. Together, these offices are responsible for the daily coordination of both domestic and international transportation services with a fleet of more than 90 vehicles. The Har Vaessen Group has over 140 employees and generated total revenues of Euro 22 million in 2007.
According to Willem Heeren, Managing Director of Jan de Rijk Logistics, the acquisition of the Har Vaessen Group is consistent with the company’s business objectives as a European logistics service provider. “The expansion into Central-, Southern- and partly Eastern Europe will further strengthen Jan de Rijk Logistics’ European network coverage. We will now have our own offices in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria.” As a result, Jan de Rijk Logistics will operate out of 26 offices in 15 different European countries.
In view of continuous growth in freight volumes as well as the increasing restrictions regarding international road transportation within Europe, Jan de Rijk Logistics sees a strong need for longer term, sustainable transportation alternatives on a European scale. Willem Heeren said: “We are delighted to add the intermodal activities of the Har Vaessen Group to the current service portfolio of Jan de Rijk Logistics. Moving into intermodal transportation will contribute to further develop our capabilities in offering new and sustainable logistics concepts.”
Also with respect to a number of key market segments, including the market for High-end consumer electronics, the acquisition of the Har Vaessen Group will further strengthen the market position of Jan de Rijk Logistics. According to Willem Heeren, this will become another important driver for growth. “We are convinced that the incorporation of Har Vaessen will create new business opportunities for our company and that we will be able to benefit from synergies and economies of scale in various areas. As a result, we will able to further improve our proposition towards our existing customers as well as build up new customer relationships.” By the end of
2008, total revenue of Jan de Rijk Logistics is expected to increase to Euro 200 million.
