Our ESG approach
Jan de Rijk Logistics takes Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) seriously. We believe that strong performance in all three areas enhances a company’s reputation and productivity. This is not only the right thing to do, but also the smart thing to do. We understand the importance of not only talking about sustainability but also taking concrete actions. We adopt a practical approach to ESG and continuously strive for improvement.
Materiality
In full accordance with CSRD guidelines, Jan de Rijk Logistics conducted surveys and interviews with multiple stakeholders, including customers, staff, management, and the supervisory board, to determine our material themes. Materiality matrices have been created for each theme (E, S, and G).
Based on the established materiality, our ESG framework and ESG KPIs have been developed. Starting from our ESG framework, ESG KPIs have been defined. Not all necessary information for these KPIs is immediately available. In the coming years, the necessary information will be gathered to achieve comprehensive KPI reporting.
Environmental
Jan de Rijk Logistics feels a strong responsibility towards customers, employees, and future generations. Climate change is the greatest long-term challenge we all face. We believe it is important to take responsibility in this area and have outlined our Environmental plans in a roadmap for the coming years. Our approach aligns with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, specifically focusing on Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Goal 13: Climate Action.
Measures in our current strategy have already led to a reduction in our CO2 emissions. The majority of our emissions are caused by our fleet.
Our roadmap focuses on seven concrete actions to achieve a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions well-to-wheel by 2030, compared to our reference year 2019. Jan de Rijk Logistics remains committed to a healthier planet.

Social
Our staff contributes to shaping our company and serving our customers through their daily work. Jan de Rijk Logistics aims to create a great and unique working environment for its staff, ensuring fair and equal working conditions, a healthy and safe work environment, attractive salaries, promotion and retention strategies, personal development opportunities, and everything that contributes to generating high levels of engagement among our staff.
Safety
Safety is and remains an important theme within our organization. We have already made significant progress in this area, with a steady decline in the number of accidents in recent years. Since 2020, the number of accidents has been halved to just 6 accidents with absenteeism in 2023. Our safety team has organized safety training for drivers, set up public accident counters at all locations, sent out weekly safety messages to keep the topic in constant focus, and conducted in-depth root-cause analyses to prevent future accidents.
Driver Working Conditions
Jan de Rijk Logistics finds it important to provide drivers with a safe and pleasant working environment. This primarily applies to our fleet. Jan de Rijk Logistics continues to invest in new fleet to ensure our drivers work with new equipment. Additionally, all our locations are equipped with good facilities for showering, cooking, sleeping, and washing. For years, we have focused on attracting female drivers by providing separate, well-maintained facilities for women, where they can feel at home.
Personal Development
Continuous learning and development are crucial for all employees in our organization. Therefore, we encourage our employees to keep developing and learning, both within their own roles and beyond. We train (new) employees on-the-job and facilitate training through partners. We also maintain the professional knowledge of colleagues by continuously encouraging their personal development within, but also outside, their own field. We see this investment reflected in the number of training hours.
Governance
Jan de Rijk Logistics is convinced that corporate governance is important for the company’s development. We respect and value differences because it makes our organization stronger, more innovative, and more attractive. For Jan de Rijk Logistics, diversity means more than just the ratio between men and women in our organization. Diversity encompasses all types of differences we can experience with each other, both visible (skin color, male/female, age) and invisible (gender, religion, culture, education level, etc.). Within our organization, we see an increasing variety of nationalities and cultural backgrounds. Within our management team, we strive for a great diversity of personalities using Insights profiles, which promotes the team’s creativity and productivity.
Code of Ethics
Psychosocial workload plays an important role in a healthy and safe work environment. Therefore, we pay a lot of attention to this in our organization. Our code of ethics provides clear guidelines for desired behavior.
